Save The Turtles!

Hello lovelies…

Early this month, I was given a task to report on one of the Malaysia’s turtle conservation & protection centre which is located at Pantai Kerachut, Penang.

I have to admit, this is a fun task I had ever experienced since I am an animal lover kinda  person and believe it or not…turtle is categorized in endangered or critically endangered species in the IUCN Red List. Which means…the future generations might or might not able to see this species, depending on how our today generation “care” about this species.

The centre is open daily from 10.00 am till 4.00 pm (UTC +8). You can either go to the centre by boat or hiking. In my case, a boat was already prepared for me & my team members at the jetty.

Awww…lucky me!

The centre has been established since 1990 by the Department of Fisheries Malaysia. The centre was build to save this species population from extinction.  In Penang, there are three (3) main beaches that are mainly the landing areas where this species come to lay eggs;

  1. Kerachut Beach;
  2. Telur Kampi Beach; and
  3. Teluk Ketapang Kecil Beach.

which are under Penang National Park.

There are two (2) turtle species that are commonly found in Kerachut Beach, Penang. They are:

  1. Green turtle (Chelonia mydas); and
  2. Olive ridley turtle (Lepidochelys olivacea).

      1. I am hoping the same. It is saddening to think that nowadays, cruelty to animals are increasingly becoming worst. These cute animals have feelings as well, just like us humans.
